The Dangers of Shopping.

As Good Catholics, I’m sure we all try to follow the example set by Christ. “By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” But there are times when showing love is not enough, if you are not careful it could cost you much more!

A young man shopping in his local supermarket noticed a little old lady following him around. Whenever he stopped, she stopped and always seemed to be staring at him rather oddly. She finally overtook him on the way to the checkout, smiled and said, “I hope I haven’t made you feel ill at ease, it’s just that you look so much like my late son, he was killed in a car accident and today is the anniversary of his death.” “I’m terribly sorry,” said the young man, “It must be very hard for you to cope with his loss.” They had both reached the checkout by now and the old lady leaned forward and said quietly, “I know it’s very silly of me, but could call out “Goodbye Mum,” as I leave the checkout, this would make me feel so happy on this special day.”

She emptied her trolley, passed her groceries through the checkout, packed them into bags and made to leave the store, then as she left, as requested the young man called after her, “Goodbye Mum,” the old lady smiled and waved back at him.

Feeling very pleased that he had brought a ray of sunshine into someone’s lonely day; he went to pay for his small basket of shopping. “That will be £86.88p,” said the checkout girl. “It can’t be as much as that,” protested the young man, “I only bought four items.” The girl smiled and said, “Yes that’s right you did, but your mum said you were a very good son and that you insisted on paying for her shopping too.”

Gentlemen! The moral of this little tale is this; try not to shop alone.
But if you must, remember, you can’t always rely on little old ladies.
