We are delighted with our 2016 results across the school. The staff and children worked very hard throughout the year to achieve such wonderful outcomes which are above the national averages.

Early Years Foundation Stage

In the Early Years Foundation Stage, children are assessed against a number of areas of learning and to attain the GLD (Good Level of Development) they need to have achieved the expected standard in reading, writing and mathematics, as well as the three prime areas of learning: personal, social, emotional development; physical development; communication and language.



The 2016 Key Stage 1 & 2 assessments are the first which assess the new, more challenging, National Curriculum which was introduced in 2014. The expectations for pupils have been raised in both key stages and so are not comparable with previous years. Across the board the children have performed amazingly well and we are incredibly proud of both their efforts and their progress. We have exceeded all of the national averages for every subject despite the changes in SATs this year.

Key Stage 1

Children are now either assessed as working towards the expected standard, meeting the expected standard or working at greater depth.

Key Stage 2

In Key Stage 2 the children in Year 6 took new versions of the SATs tests in reading, grammar punctuation and spelling (EGPS), and mathematics in May 2016. There was not a test for writing; this was assessed by the teacher. The tests reflected the new revised standards and higher expectations of the new curriculum.

Jubilee Year of Mercy

As part of the Jubilee Year of Mercy, pupils from Years 1 to 6 visited St. Anne’s Cathedral and entered through the Door of Mercy. Children then followed the seven Stations of Mercy, praying and reflecting on various things in connection with the Year of Mercy, understanding the need to be merciful towards others.

Class 10 and 11 also attended the Rosary and Mass at lunchtime. Our pupil’s reverential and respectful behaviour was commented on by the priest, Cathedral staff and members of the public.

Mini Vinnies

These are our Mini Vinnies. They visited Leeds Cathedral and Bishop Marcus to celebrate the feast of St. Vincent de Paul on Tuesday 27 September. Adam and Lawrence were asked to be the Bishop's personal altar servers and all the children were taken to Frankie's and Benny's for a thank you treat by Mrs Walsh and Miss Guy. The children’s behaviour was complimented by members of the public who also attended. They are a credit to our school.

Harvest Festival Service

Our Harvest Festival event in church was in October. It was a lovely event where each class performed a song, hymn or poem to remind us of the importance of thanking God for all He has given us.

This year we supported the Franciscan Sisters and the SVP (St. Vincent de Paul society) who will ensure all gifts are shared with those most in need. Yet again we were overwhelmed by the generosity of our children and their families. It is wonderful to see our school following in the steps of Jesus Christ and caring for those less fortunate.

The Shoe Box Appeal

The Shoe Box Appeal has just finished and 30 boxes were successfully filled and sent to Eastern Europe for children and young people. The generosity of the pupils and parents is, as ever, overwhelming.

Road Safety

In September, the Road Safety Team from Leeds City council visited school. The children rode on scooters and learnt how to be a responsible and safe scooter rider. In class, pupils spoke about how they learnt to brake safely, the reasons why they should walk with their scooter across the road and how to spot potential hazards ahead and act swiftly.

Reception Class Macmillan Coffee Morning

On Friday 7th October, Reception hosted a coffee morning, for their parents and Year 5 buddies, to support families facing cancer. The children baked buns in school and families donated cakes and biscuits too. During the morning, parents had the opportunity to chat to each other and meet the Year 5 buddies who support their children in school. School staff also took part and the staffroom was full of delicious treat too.


During October our Art teacher, Mrs Robinson, helped us to make Leeds Monopoly boards. We chose many different landmarks of Leeds and made our own clay counters. Then we invited our parents into school to play Monopoly with us.
